Tans started with a only 11 men which included boss
Walter McMenamay in goals. This only lasted 5 seconds
before the subs showed up and the boss could go back
to the side lines.
The game started slowly for Tans who promptly let Paisley
go one nil up after five minutes due to some poor defending
from the whole team. Once Tannahill settled and started
to find their feet they soon took control of the game.
A change of formation at half time improved Tans performance
again but the final ball and some poor finishing let
them down. Tans had a strong claim for a penalty turned
down by the referee with about 15 minutes to go but
kept plugging away looking for an opening.
The opportunity they had waited for finally came with
just five minutes remaining when the referee did actually
award Tans a penalty. Lee McMenamay confidently placed
the ball and then rocketed it over the bar. (planes
at the airport were grounded for 20 mins waiting for
the ball to land).
All credit to Tannahill and to young McMenamay as their
heads did not go down and the breakthrough finally came
in the last few seconds of the match when McMenamay
hit the back of the net from close range after a goalmouth
scramble.
A point claimed in the end, but with around 80% of the
ball, Tannahill should have had a better result than
1-1.
