If it's goals and entertainment you are
after, then you could do worse than go along and watch
Tannahill 'A' this season. After 2 matches they have
scored thirteen goals. A bit more worringly though,
they have conceded eight, but remain unbeaten.
Despite the five goal winning margin, it is the general
feeling that Tannahill could and should have won this
match by many more. A combination of sloppy goals conceded
and failing to bury chances could be costly in other
games, but this time, Tans had enough to see off the
league newcomers.
Thomas Robertson, started the rout with a low shot which
the goalkeeper should have dealt with, but let the ball
slip through his legs and into the net. Robertson soon
followed up with a second. This time his free kick took
a slight deflection off the head of a Croft defender
and past the goalkeeper.
Not to be outdone, Lee McMenamay got in on the act and
the first of his four strikes came when he latched on
to a long ball from James Montgomery and rounded the
kepper to put Tans three up. Young McMenamay soon added
his second in similar fashion, this time electing to
neatly chip his efffort over the keeper.
HALF TIME 4-0
As of the previous week, Tans seemed to hit a slump
in the second half and allowed their opponents to get
back into the match. Perhaps they thought the game was
already dead and buried and stopped doing the simple
things which saw them dominate the first half.
For all that, Tans extended their lead when McMenamay
claimed his hat-trick from the penalty spot, but soon
after, Croft pulled two goals back. The first was a
fine strike which gave the keeper no chance and the
second after a cross from the left wasn't dealt with
properly by the Tans defence.
Tannahill took control again with the sixth and perhaps
the best goal of the game. John McGrath cleverly flicked
the ball round his marker on the halfway line to send
himself clear before cilinically dispatching it into
the net. Robertson then claimed his hat-trick when he
pounced on a poor pass and made his way towards goal
before finishing neatly with the outside of his foot.
Tannahill then conceded a penalty when William McMenamay
upended the Croft striker as he raced clear. The Tans
defender was lucky to escape a red card as it appeared
to deny a clear goalscoring opportunity. The spot kick
was dispatched to reduce the deficit to four.
Lee McMenamay rounded off the scoring when he capitalised
on some poor defending to steal the ball and calmly
round the keeper again for his fourth of the day.
A good result for Tans, but still room for improvement.
