As in their previous match, Tannahill
‘A’ burst out of the blocks and raced into
an early commanding lead against their lacklustre opponents.
Indeed the match was effectively over at half time as
Tans fired five first half goals without reply.
Tans started the rout when Andrew Paterson collected
the ball in his own half and skipped past two challenges
before sending Lee McMenamay clear on the left. McMenamay
made for the bye line and cut back for Paterson bursting
into the box. His first effort rebounded back to him
but he made no mistake as he lashed home the second
attempt.
Tans went two up soon after, this time Lee McMenamay
on the right wing did well to evade a couple of challenges
before crossing for Gordon Kelso to net from close range.
Kelso could have had another, but the Glynhill keeper
made a good block with his knees.
Midway through the half, Tans went three up. Neil Fraser’s
long ball picked out Kelso who did well to flick a header
into the path of Lee McMenamay. He out-muscled the last
defender and charged into the box only to be crudely
taken out by the goalkeeper for a clear penalty. Graham
Morrison took the responsibility and confidently buried
the spot kick.
Tannahill kept pressing forward and added to their
tally, firstly through Ian Fraser as he latched on to
a Walter McMenamay pass and expertly rounded the keeper
before passing into the empty net. Then Ian Fraser turned
provider, finding Kelso on the right who hung up an
inviting cross for Lee McMenamay to head a deserved
goal.
HALF TIME 5-0
With the game effectively over, Tans clearly dropped
a gear or two which resulted in a poor second period.
One highlight was a reply from Glynhill. A sweet strike
in to the top corner from a cross from the right, which
gave stand-in Tannahill keeper Stevie Guy no chance.
Gary Cahill completed the scoring late on from the penalty
spot to see out a comfortable victory for Tans.
